Flykitt Review: Can It Really Prevent Jet Lag? We Put It To The Test

We booked a $750 private boat tour on Lake Como for the afternoon we landed in Italy. Probably overly ambitious after an overnight flight given that we would be fighting jet lag. But we only had one day in Lake Como and seeing that gorgeous lake from a vintage wooden boat had been on my bucket list for years.

I started looking for ways to avoid jet lag. In the past, I’ve always just powered through the first day until bedtime which pretty much meant I was a zombie by mid-afternoon. And the next day or two weren’t much better.

After a few searches the algorithm did its thing and ads for Flykitt started showing up on my feed. Lots of ads. So, I clicked.

Flykitt’s website claims it can reduce or eliminate jet lag in 93% of travelers. The kit includes supplements like fish oil, vitamin c, and melatonin along with blue light blocking glasses.

The secret sauce is the Flykitt app that gives you a customized schedule for when to take each supplement and when to put on your glasses to help your body adjust to the new time zone.

To say I was skeptical is an understatement. To my surprise the reviews were were overwhelmingly positive! What sold me was a Reddit thread in which the CEO of the company actually answered readers questions. His candor and transparency impressed me enough that I decided to give it a try.

My 86-year-old dad was also traveling with us. He tires easily and needs time to recover from even a day trip these days. Jet lag combined with his age and stamina level could knock him out for several days on a trip like this.

We ordered our Flykitts, put our flight info into the app, and took our supplements (mostly) as directed. We did modify a couple of things that I’ll explain later.

And y’all, we were all amazed at how good we felt! We had no brain fog, no exhaustion, and none of that “blah” feeling that we have always had the first couple of days of an international trip.

The real shocker was how Dad felt. He had enough energy to join us for a late dinner after our boat tour and kept talking about how good he felt. He also praised the results on the return flight.

As he’s gotten older it has taken him 6 – 7 days for him to to recover after getting home from an international trip. But he called me to let me know that this time he was back to normal after just 2 days.

Would I buy Flykitt again? Absolutely.

But, it may not be for you. Read on for what worked on our trip to Italy, what we didn’t love, and what parts of the program we modified so you can decide for yourself.

✈️ Don’t lose your first day to jet lag!

We had enough energy to enjoy our Lake Como boat tour just hours after landing in Italy. See how FlyKitt could help you make the most of your next international trip.

Our Wholly Non-Scientific Test of Flykitt

We put Flykitt to the test with three different bodies on a round trip flight to and from Italy.

Meet Your Testers: Three Travelers Ages 53, 56, and 86

Ashley – I am 53 and menopausal, with all the issues that go along with that, including lack of sleep, brain fog, etc. That’s just normal life these days, much less with jet lag.

Jason – My husband is a moderately active 56 year old man who can’t ever sleep on an airplane and has put off international trips for years because of it.

Harlon – The real test (and the one I was most interested in the results) was my dad. He’s 86 and is not very active…as in not active at all due to some mobility issues. But that wasn’t always the case. Dad has traveled the world for over 50 years. In fact, he and my mother used to lead tours to the UK in the 80s and later they traveled together to Europe, Africa, and Asia.

What Is Included in FlyKitt

Everything comes in a really nice, reusable amenity kit that was easy to pack in our personal item.

  • Supplements
    • Sustain: 600mg Omega Fatty Acids + 965mg Fish OIl
    • Protect: 1000mg Vitamin C + 60mg Organic Pomegranate Extract
    • Mellow: 40mg Magnesium Glycinate + 1 mg Melatonin
    • Circadian Reset: Organic cane sugar packet enhanced with 1.3mg Vitamin B6 + 1,000 mcg Vitamin B12
  • Organic Coffee packets to be mixed with the Circadian Reset
  • Blue Light Glasses

Could you purchase the supplements and a pair of blue light-blocking glasses separately for less than $99? Of course.

However, what you’d miss is the customized schedule that lays out for you exactly what time you need to eat, sleep, and take those supplements in order for your body to avoid inflammation and adjust to your new time zone.

And for me, that app schedule was the secret sauce for keeping us on the program.

Setting Up the Flykitt App

The Flykitt app is simple and very user-friendly. When you enter your airline and flight number the app will calculate your departure and arrival as well as the number of time zones you’ll cross.

Add your preferred sleep and wake times at home as well as for your destination. Then, check off any add-ons you are using.

Next, you can choose to add reminders to your calendar. As of this writing the app tells you that calendar sync is still in beta. We used it and it worked great for us. Having the reminders pop up was invaluable so we didn’t miss taking a supplement or having a meal at the right time.

In addition to your trip summary, the app gives you lots of information about how to best use the kit to adapt to the new time zone. They have advice on caffeine, time zones, meals, and more.

Flykitt Reminders

We got our first reminder of the day at 5:30 AM, (our normal wake time at home) telling us to take 1 Sustain capsule, eat a small meal, and to get some light exposure. About every 4 hours we would get another reminder with new directions.

Since the program tells you to eat a small meal or snack with each supplement, I had to plan ahead and take some snacks to work with me. Not a problem for me, but worth noting if that would be difficult for you on the travel day.

Adjustments We Made To the Flykitt Program

In our wholly non-scientific test, we made a few adjustments.

Blue Light Glasses: Because our cabin was darkened right after dinner, none of us ended up using the blue light glasses (even though Jason got a laugh modeling them).

Mellow Melatonin Supplement: Dad skipped the Mellow packet because he has a stronger melatonin supplement that he takes every night. We didn’t want him taking more than he was used to.

Circadian Reset: Circadian Reset is cane sugar infused with vitamins B6 and B12 that you are supposed to add to the organic coffee packet provided. I’m guessing you get a boost from the caffeine, sugar, and vitamin mixture first thing in the morning to help adjust your body to the new time zone.

I only drink my coffee black. Dad doesn’t drink coffee or tea so he didn’t have anything to mix the sugar into. We knew that would be an issue so we brought our own vitamin B supplements, and I enjoyed my black coffee while he had his Diet Coke for the caffeine boost.

Flight #1: Atlanta to Milan

Our nonstop overnight flight left Atlanta at 6:20 PM and landed in Milan at 9:20 AM local time.

Thanks to our airline points, we all flew business class on the overnight flight. Having lie-flat seats was a definite advantage, and we each managed about five hours of sleep. That’s worth keeping in mind when evaluating how much of our success was due to Flykitt

The first day was a complete success. We didn’t miss out on anything we wanted to do. We had no brain fog, bloating or digestion issues.

Dad relaxed at the hotel and took his normal daily hour long nap while Jason and I explored Tremezzo. We napped for about 30 minutes before our boat tour.

I was so thankful for whatever voodoo Flykitt magic that seemed to be working. We woke up completely refreshed and ready to check the Lake Como Boat Tour off our bucket list.

I’ve known too many travelers who regretted booking tours on their first day because they were half asleep during the entire tour.

We were all able to make it all the way through the day with no issues. Dad joined us for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant and we were all in bed by 9 PM. We slept hard straight through the night and woke up around 7 AM.

If you’re planning a long-haul trip and want to make the most of your first day, here’s the FlyKitt International kit we tested. ✈️

By days 2 and 3 we all still felt really good. Zero brain fog or exhaustion that we were all used to on international trips.

The biggest surprise came on our third evening in Milan. We had booked a walking tour that started at 5:15 PM, which is normally around the time my dad is done for the day.

Our plan was to see The Last Supper and leave the tour early. Instead, Dad felt good enough to stay for the entire three-hour tour. For someone who usually needs nearly a week to recover from international travel, that was pretty incredible.

Plot twist: Overnight, I woke up with achy legs and a sore throat, all the signs that I was getting sick. So, I had zero jet lag. But, I did end up getting one of the worst cases of bronchitis I have had in years.

Flight #2: Florence to Atlanta With Layover in London

For the return trip, we flew from Florence to Atlanta with a 3 hour layover in London. We left London at 4:20 PM and landed in Atlanta at 9:30 PM local time.

Dad was once again in business class, while Jason and I were in premium economy. Sadly, no lay flat seats for us. But it was a good chance to test FlyKitt when we would have to sleep sitting up.

We managed to sleep a few hours, but I wish I’d had a good travel pillow to make sleeping more comfortable.

The next day our energy levels were surprisingly good since jet lag is notoriously worse when flying east. We were a little tired from having just done a massive international trip, and I was still recovering from being sick.

But overall, we felt like we had way more energy the day after we got home than we would have without Flykitt.

I felt like I needed to give my body another day to rest before going back into work with students, but I was awake and alert all day long. No naps needed. Had I not been sick I would have been good at work all day long.

Jason works from home, so he unpacked and did all the laundry between meetings. He jumped fully right back in and felt great.

Flykitt Pricing

We purchased FlyKitt International for $99 each on Amazon. Both Amazon and the Flykitt website list the retail price at $138, but every time I have seen it, it has been marked down to $99.

Pros and Cons of Flykitt

What We Liked

The app was easy to set up and the reminders gave me one less thing to think about on a busy travel day. You do have to plan a little bit to make sure that you have access to snacks and water at the right times, but it was very manageable.

What I think I liked the most about Flykitt is that it just seemed to work for us. At least for the three of us in our little non-scientific study, Flykitt made it possible for us to enjoy our trip to Italy from day one.

What We Thought Could Be Better

The only thing that I would change is the Circadian Reset supplement. I already explained why Dad and I skipped it and substituted our own supplements.

Also, FlyKitt provides the organic coffee packet to mix with the Circadian Reset, which is a nice feature, as long as you are somewhere you would have access to hot water. Otherwise, I think that would have been a difficult one to take.

Who I Think Flykitt is Best For

Past age 50, our bodies just don’t bounce back as fast as they used to. As three older travelers, we appreciated that we were able to jump into our trip and then recover from our trip faster than we have been able to before.

While I can’t speak for younger travelers, I can say that if you are 50+, I feel like FlyKitt is a good investment for your international travel.

That’s especially true if you have a short international itinerary. For instance, if you grab a great flight deal for a long weekend in London, you’re going to want to take advantage of every minute that you can there.

FlyKitt can help you feel really good from day one, so you can go ahead and plan that really cool tour on the first day.

Who Should Skip Flykitt

Adding FlyKitt to the cost of this trip was just under $200 for Jason and myself. Dad also purchased his kit for $99. However, if you have a large family, that can add up fast, so the cost would definitely be something to consider.

You might not need FlyKitt if you’re staying an extended period of time (as in, a month or more), because those first couple of days may not be so important to you.

Finally, if you already take some of the supplements that are in the pack, it’s worth a conversation with your doctor to find out if the program is safe for you to use or if you feel like it is going to benefit you.

Our Wholly Non-Scientific Verdict

To finish out our wholly non-scientific test, I had each of us rate Flykitt on a scale of 1 – 5 in several categories. You can see from the numbers on the chart below that we are all official fans of Flykitt.

Dad’s answers surprised me the most. He’s the cynic in the group when it comes to things like Flykitt and he has dozens of international flights under his belt. He’s used to battling through jet lag as part of the experience. I didn’t expect him to be so excited about the product, but he’s already talked about buying refill kits for our trip to Greece.

💙 My 86-year-old dad used to need 6–7 days to recover from international travel

After trying FlyKitt, he was back to his normal activity level within two days! Take a look at FlyKitt before your next long-haul flight.

Would We Buy FlyKitt Again?

And after paying thousands of dollars for our trip to Italy, spending $99 to hit the ground running on our first day was absolutely worth it. Not to mention having the energy to return to work the day after getting home.

So, yes. I would absolutely buy FlyKitt again. In fact, we have a trip to California planned for the summer, and I will be purchasing the domestic kit to try it out then as well.

✈️ Would I spend $99 on FlyKitt again? Absolutely!

After enjoying our first days in Italy without the usual jet lag fog, I’d recommend checking out FlyKitt before your next international trip.
