You can, but I wouldn't try to bolt it onto this exact route. Acadia sits far up the Maine coast, and the five-day "Acadia plus the mountains" itineraries you'll find online only make it work by cutting out Portland, Portsmouth, Cape Ann, and most of the stops that make this particular trip special, then spending a full day just driving across the state.

My honest advice: pick a lane. If Acadia is your priority, build a coastal trip around it, Boston up through Maine to Bar Harbor, and save the mountains for another time. If the foliage and the mountains are the dream, do this loop and save Acadia for a future trip. Trying to do everything in one week means you rush the parts you came for.

Not this whole route, at least not without rushing it. The coastal leg alone (Cape Ann up to Portland) took us three full days, and it never felt slow.

If you only have a few days, my honest advice is to pick one half rather than cram in both. Do the coast (Boston, Cape Ann, and coastal Maine) or the mountains (the White Mountains and Vermont), and save the other for next time. You'll have a far better trip seeing half of it well than all of it in a blur.
