Planning a trip to Colorado Springs and trying to figure out where to stay? If you’re looking for unique hotels in Colorado Springs it’s easy to spend an hour comparing websites and still have no idea which ones are actually memorable. Same chains, same beige rooms, same lobby you’ve seen in ten other cities.

We get it. It’s hard to tell which places are actually special and which just take a nice photo. And we think the hotel you pick is the lens you see the whole trip through. Pick the wrong one, and even a great destination can feel a little meh.

The good news? Colorado Springs has some genuinely great hotels with real personality so you won’t be stuck with another interchangeable room with a key card.

So which hotels are actually worth booking, and what makes each one special? We’ve visited Colorado Springs four times over the past few years (The Broadmoor is basically our home base), and we’ve dug into the city’s hotels to find the ones that stand out.

One is the oldest hotel in Colorado Springs. One was an old gold-mining exchange. One doesn’t even have a bar, and we still put it on the list.

These are the coolest, most unique hotels in Colorado Springs, from a downtown boutique to a castle to the most iconic resort in the state. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s part of the vacation instead of just somewhere to sleep, you’re in the right place.

I’ll walk you through what each one is like, who it’s best for, and how to choose the right one for your trip.

Before You Book

You might be surprised to see a cocktail-forward crew like us put an alcohol-free hotel on the list. That’s right. Glen Eyrie is owned by The Navigators, a Christian ministry so it’s alcohol-free which means there’s no bar and you can’t bring in your own. We put it on the list anyway, because there’s just nothing else like it in Colorado Springs.

A couple of quick heads-ups. If you want afternoon tea or a castle tour, book ahead, because those reservations fill up. And the castle is in the middle of a multi-year renovation right now, so peek at their website before you go to see what’s affected during your stay.

I’d Book This If…

I’d book Glen Eyrie if you’re the kind of traveler who gets excited about history, architecture, and staying somewhere with a great story behind it. I recommend Glen Eyrie to anyone who’d pick a peaceful retreat with character over a crowded pool any day.

I’d probably skip it if you’re looking for a full-service luxury resort with multiple restaurants, a spa, and lots of on-site activities. And if your idea of a good night ends with a cocktail at the bar this probably isn’t going to be your spot.

The Mining Exchange

What Makes It Unique

Long before it became a boutique hotel, fortunes were made here. Built in 1902 as Colorado Springs’ mining exchange, this is where mine owners and investors came together during the city’s gold boom. Today, the soaring ceilings, original bank vaults, and historic architecture have been thoughtfully restored, creating a hotel that feels rooted in history without feeling stuck in the past.

Hotel Highlights

If you like boutique hotels with personality, this one is hard to beat. The lobby is easily one of the hotel’s best features, with its exposed brick, original architectural details, and comfortable spaces to hang out with a coffee or cocktail. Jason spent 30 years in banking, so I think he was more excited about seeing the original bank vaults than anything else in the hotel.

The rooms look like English Arts and Crafts and the Gilded Age had a baby, and the result is the perfect modern boutique hotel room. I’m talking tall arched windows, exposed brick, and William Morris wallpaper over wood wainscoting.

Decorative touches like green banker’s lamps and retro-looking Victrola radios give a nod back to the building’s bank days. Book a room on The Mining Club for 24-hour access to snacks and drinks in The Pantry.

The Mining Exchange is right in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, so restaurants, cocktail bars, coffee shops, museums, and shops are all within walking distance.

Before You Book

The Mining Exchange is a downtown boutique hotel, not a destination resort, so don’t expect pools, sprawling grounds, or a long list of on-site activities. The hotel’s spa is currently closed with no announced reopening date, so I wouldn’t choose it specifically for that.

I’d Book This If…

Book the Mining Exchange if you want to be right in the middle of downtown, close enough to walk to the unique restaurants in Colorado Springs and the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum. It’s also the pick if you love a hotel with real design and history, or you just want somewhere with character instead of another cookie-cutter chain.

The Antlers

What Makes It Unique

When you see the modern outside of the Antlers, you might wonder why we put it on a list of unique hotels. Well, it’s all about the history. The Antlers is the oldest hotel in Colorado Springs, even if it doesn’t look anything like it did when it was built in 1883 by General William Jackson Palmer. (Yes, that’s the same Palmer who founded Colorado Springs and built Glen Eyrie.)

Hotel Highlights

One of The Antlers’ biggest strengths is its location. Step outside the front door and you’re within walking distance of downtown restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, museums, and the Pikes Peak Center. It’s also one of the few larger downtown hotels with amenities like an indoor pool, fitness center, multiple dining options, and plenty of meeting space, making it a popular choice for both families and conventions. If you like being in the middle of the action instead of driving everywhere, it’s hard to beat this location.

The building may be modern, but the inside has an older soul, and the staff keeps the history alive. Jason and I met The Antlers’ biggest fan, Tommy the Shoeshine Man, who has been working at the hotel for almost 50 years.

Find his booth and ask him to tell you about the history of the hotel. He’ll take you on a private tour sharing old photos of the first hotel, telling stories about its history, and spilling secrets about famous guests who have stayed here.

Before You Book

The Antlers is a busy downtown hotel, so expect a livelier atmosphere than you’ll find at a resort like The Broadmoor. Parking is available for a daily fee, and while the hotel has plenty of amenities, it’s best to think of it as a comfortable downtown base rather than a luxury resort experience. 

I’d Book This If…

I’d book The Antlers if you want to be in the middle of downtown Colorado Springs with restaurants, nightlife, and attractions just outside your door. It’s a great choice if you’re planning to spend your days exploring the city and want the convenience of walking almost everywhere.

It’s the answer for someone who wants the convenience of a full-service downtown hotel without paying Broadmoor prices or choosing a smaller boutique property. 

I’d probably skip it if you’re looking for a quiet mountain retreat or a destination resort where the hotel itself is the main attraction.

Cheyenne Mountain Resort

What Makes It Unique

If your idea of a Colorado vacation is spending as much time outside as possible, Cheyenne Mountain Resort was practically built for it. Instead of leaning into history or luxury, this resort is all about mountain views, fresh air, and staying active. You can paddleboard on the private lake, play a round of golf, spend the afternoon by the pool, or simply sit on your balcony and enjoy the view of Cheyenne Mountain. It captures the kind of laid-back, outdoor lifestyle that draws so many people to Colorado in the first place.

Hotel Highlights

The resort is big with 316 rooms and a handful of suites spread across eight lodge buildings, so it feels more like a little mountain campus than a single hotel. 

you’ll have no trouble filling your days here. Start with a morning on the golf course, spend the afternoon paddleboarding or kayaking on the private lake, cool off at one of the pools, then grab dinner overlooking Cheyenne Mountain. It’s one of the few places in Colorado Springs where you can have a true resort day without ever leaving the property.

The rooms all have private balconies or patios, making it easy to enjoy the scenery without leaving your room, and the resort has enough activities to keep families busy without feeling overwhelming. It’s the kind of place where you can be as active as you want, but you never feel like you’re on a schedule.

Before You Book

While the resort feels tucked away against Cheyenne Mountain, it’s not within walking distance of restaurants, shops, or attractions, so you’ll want a car if you plan to explore Colorado Springs. Like most destination resorts, there’s also a daily resort fee of $40, so be sure to factor that into your budget.

One other thing to keep in mind is that this is a spread-out property. Depending on where your room is located, you may have a bit of a walk to the lake, pools, or restaurants. That’s part of the charm, but it’s worth knowing if you’re traveling with young kids or anyone with mobility concerns.

I’d Book This If…

Book Cheyenne Mountain Resort if you want a full resort experience with room to spread out, a mountain setting, and plenty to do on site. It’s great for an active trip or a family getaway, and it’s a smart middle ground if you want that resort feel without the Broadmoor’s price tag or dress code.

I’d skip it if you’d rather be walkable in the middle of downtown, or if you’re after a small, intimate boutique. This one is all about the space, the setting, and the amenities, so book it when you want to settle in and make the resort your home base.
