Roo Mountain Vineyards: A Delicious New North Georgia Winery
The North Georgia Wine Trail is an easy day trip from Atlanta and has dozens of vineyards where you can sip and savor local vines. Roo Mountain Vineyards is the latest addition and one of our favorites.

With quaint small towns, miles of hiking trails, beautiful views, and dozens of wineries to sample, the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Georgia are a popular spot for weekend getaways and day trips from Atlanta.
Recently, we decided to seek out some sites within an hour of home, starting with a few wineries in the North Georgia mountains. Our first stop turned out to be our favorite.
Roo Mountain Vineyards in Ellijay, Georgia delivered on atmosphere, amazing views, and of course delicious wines.
What To Expect at Roo Mountain Vineyards
Roo Mountain Vineyards sits high on 226 acres with stunning views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. As you drive through the gates the road weaves around the vineyard growing 6,000 vines of delicious grapes.

The highlight of the vineyard is The Nest, a huge rooftop garden patio overlooking acres of serene farmland framed by the Blue Ridge mountains. You can sit under the shade or out in the bright Georgia sunshine. In the winter, pick a seat near the huge stone fireplace.

Roo Mountain’s reputation for fantastic wines and gorgeous scenery got around North Georgia within months of its opening and the vineyard has quickly become a favorite North Georgia winery. The patio fills up within an hour of opening (at least on the weekends). So, if you want to snag a coveted spot overlooking the valley below I recommend getting there early.
A new tasting room opened this winter. An outdoor amphitheater set to host live music events is currently under construction.

Roo Mountain is dog friendly, but is strictly adults only. So, while well behaved pups are welcome, children (including infants) are not. Personally, we are big fans of the no kids policy. The atmosphere is relaxed and the vibe is rustic sophistication.

Roo Mountain Vineyards Wines
While many Georgia wineries import grapes for their wines, Roo Mountain produces all of its reds, whites, sparking wines and ciders right here in Georgia.

Wines are kept on tap, so every glass is fresh. No worries about getting the last glass from a bottle that was opened hours before. Of course you can also purchase bottles of your favorites to take home.
We’ve tried a few wine flights to figure out our favorites. I prefer dry whites, while Jason likes reds. Our daughter and her fiance liked the ciders as well. I can say with all honesty that we would recommend any of the ones we sampled.

I’m not a connoisseur. Just a girl who enjoys a good glass of wine. So, my reviews aren’t fancy or eloquent, but I hope they can help you decide where to start. I’ve listed the vineyards description, followed by our thoughts.
The Roo Mountain Wines We’ve Tried
Feeling Peckish?
Light lunch options such as salads, sandwiches, and charcuterie are now offered. We first visited before Roo Mountain had opened their own kitchen. We enjoyed the Mountain View Gourmet charcuterie boxes they had delivered each morning and the different food trucks they brought in on the weekends.

We have loved our visits to Roo Mountain Vineyards and can’t wait to go back. What do you think? Have you been to Roo Mountain? What are your favorite North Georgia wineries that we should try next?
