A gentle Gulf breeze rustling the live oaks, the scent of saltwater mingling with the rich aroma of Southern cooking. That’s Ocean Springs for you—a charming coastal town where art, history, and cuisine blend seamlessly. Whether you’re seeking an elegant dining experience, a casual bite, or a tucked-away local favorite, this town promises to satisfy every craving.

My mother is from Ocean Springs. My grandparents lived their entire lives in this beautiful coastal town along the Hidden Coast. And, my parents retired here several years ago. So, you could say that this town has been a second home to me since childhood. Here are my picks for where to eat in Ocean Springs.

A cozy and inviting spot, The District Coffee Company is the perfect place to start your morning or take a midday break. Known for its artisanal coffee and delightful pastries, it’s a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

Must-Try: They also serve some creative and delicious specialty cocktails.


Tatonut Donut Shop

Get here early. Nope. Earlier. Even earlier than that if you want to avoid the line. People start lining up before the shop opens at 6am and many favorites will be sold out before the breakfast rush is over.

No trip to Ocean Springs is complete without a stop at TatoNut Donut Shop. The rule in our house is that the first one awake heads directly to TatoNut. This spot is family owned and serves up delicious donuts made from potato flour, giving them a unique texture and flavor. This is probably my first recommendation when anyone asks where to eat in Ocean Springs.

Must-Try: The classic glazed donut is melt-in-your-mouth perfection, but check out their monthly specials which have included delights such as S’mores, Maple Bacon, and King Cake.

Fayards

Don’t let the fact that this locally owned favorite is in a gas station throw you off. Fayard’s Market is like no gas station you’ve seen. In addition to carrying fresh gumbo, king cakes and other local favorites, Fayard’s has been making some of the best po-boys on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for longer than I’ve been alive. The magic of a perfect po-boy is not just the fillings. Its in the bread. And, Fayards has some of the best.

Must-Try: The roast beef po’boy with rich gravy and the fried shrimp po’boy are both crowd-pleasers. My personal favorite is the Oyster Po-Boy.

Glory Bound Gyro

For a Mediterranean meal with a Southern twist, Glory Bound Gyro Co. serves up hearty gyros and inventive sides in a funky, fun setting. Live music on the patio is offered a few times each week. Check their website for schedules.

We don’t make a trip to Ocean Springs without stopping at The Lady May for lunch, dinner or both! The food is fresh and dishes are innovative. Get a seat on the patio for live music and order the Bacon Jam & Pepper Jelly Board to start.

Must-Try: The shrimp and grits are a local favorite, and their cocktail list is equally impressive.

Funny story: My father had a Chicken Salad Sandwich during Cruisin the Coast that he loved so much, he sent me to track it down the next day. It didn’t take long to find that it was from Maison de Lu. I think it may have been a special menu item for Cruisin’, but if you ever see it on the menu – it has my Dad’s recommendation!

Must-Try: Their seared scallops with a citrus beurre blanc sauce are divine, and the crab cakes are some of the best on the Gulf Coast.


Mosaic

They sell out daily!

Must-Try: The smoked old-fashioned is a standout.
