The Best Hotels in Greenville SC: 7 Boutique Stays We Love
Greenville has become one of our favorite weekend getaways from Atlanta. We actually prefer catching a show at the Peace Center over driving into downtown Atlanta for one, and we’ve made the trip for Hamilton, Les Mis, and a handful of others.
Somewhere along the way, we started treating “which hotel this time?” as half the fun.

The best hotels in Greenville SC aren’t interchangeable. Each has a real personality, and the right pick depends entirely on the trip you’re taking. A show weekend wants something walkable to the Peace Center. An anniversary wants a quiet estate to disappear into. A girls’ weekend wants a whole house and a rocking-chair porch. So instead of ranking these by stars, we’ve sorted them by who they’re for.
A quick note for the points crowd: three of these are Marriott properties and even though you can book them on Bonvoy points, they could not be more different from one another.
These are the seven best hotels in Greenville that we’d actually book ourselves, and how to pick the one that fits your trip.

Our Favorite Boutique Hotels in Greenville SC
1. The Grand Bohemian Lodge
Address: 44 E Camperdown Way, Greenville, SC 29601
Rate: $$$$ | Pet-Friendly

If you only splurge on one hotel in Greenville, this is the one.
The Grand Bohemian Lodge sits right on the falls of the Reedy River, and that location does something most “downtown luxury” hotels can’t pull off. It feels like a mountain lodge, forest-green exterior, timber beams, a four-sided stone fireplace in the lobby. Except you walk out the front door and you’re two minutes from Falls Park and all of downtown’s shops and restaurants. You get lodge vibes and downtown convenience.
As Marriott Bonvoy members we got upgraded to a room with the balcony overlooking the waterfall and honestly, that view alone sold us on the whole place. The lobby art gallery pulls from owner Richard Kessler’s personal collection, and the whole property does this contemporary-meets-rustic thing that actually works instead of feeling like a theme.
The main reason to stay here is that it nails the splurge without making you leave the property to enjoy it. There’s a spa, an on-site restaurant, a bourbon bar downstairs, and a back porch full of rocking chairs that we may have overused.
The one honest note: it’s the priciest hotel on this list, and parking is valet only. But it’s a Marriott Autograph Collection property, so you can book it on points, which softens the blow nicely.
That back porch with the rocking chairs? We bought books at M. Judson Booksellers and spent an afternoon out there. Easily a highlight of our entire weekend in Greenville.
2. Hotel Domestique
Address: 10 Road of Vines, Travelers Rest, SC 29690
Rate: $$$$ | Pet-Friendly

Hotel Domestique was founded by Tour de France veteran George Hincapie and built as a cycling retreat. The resort sits about 30 minutes north of Greenville in Travelers Rest, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. When I say biking, I mean the whole resort is built around the cycling lifestyle: rentals, guided routes, some of the best cycling roads in the Southeast right out the door, and recovery gear like compression boots and an infrared sauna for when your legs are done.
But you don’t have to own spandex to love Hotel Domestique. If your idea of a good day is sitting by the saltwater pool with a glass of wine with a view of the mountains in front of you, you’ll be happy here. There’s a hot tub, countryside-view rooms, and not much reason to leave. It’s also pet friendly, which is worth knowing if the dog travels with you.
The on-site Restaurant 17 pulls people from Greenville even when they aren’t staying the night. It’s farm driven with an upscale European-bistro vibe and a favorite for special occasions like date nights and anniversary dinners.
What to consider before booking: This is a destination, not a downtown base. You’re swapping walkability and Greenville’s shops and theaters for mountain quiet and a 30-minute drive. If you want to be in the middle of the city, stay in town. If you want to disappear for a couple of days, with or without a bike, this is the one.
3. Pettigru Place Bed & Breakfast
Address: 302 Pettigru St, Greenville, SC 29601
Rate: $$$ | Not Pet-Friendly

This is the one on the list for people who actually want a bed and breakfast, not a hotel that calls itself one. Pettigru Place sits in the Pettigru Historic District, a brick Federal-style home on the National Register of Historic Homes, with six guest rooms (three have private balconies). Six rooms, so you get the small, personal version of Greenville, not a lobby full of strangers.
Located in the Pettigru neighborhood it’s a 20 minute walk down tree-lined streets to Main Street, Falls Park, and the Peace Center.
Breakfast is a chef-prepared, multi-course affair served in the candlelit dining room with specialty dishes like peaches-and-cream French toast. You probably won’t even need to stop for lunch. The thing that would tip me toward booking Pettigru Place is the complimentary wine and cheese hour every afternoon, served out in the garden gazebo or brought to your room. Free happy hour with a charcuterie plate is a yes from me every time.
Guests come back over and over for the personal service. The owner, Lori, greets guests by name, knows the best places to recommend in Greenville, and treats guests like family. She provides personal touches like a cookie jar of homemade chocolate chip cookies and a puzzle table in the common room to bring people together.
This is a hosted stay where the other guests are part of the experience. It’s closer to being a guest in someone’s home than checking into a hotel. There’s no 24-hour front desk, it’s adults only, and pets stay home. If you want anonymity and a midnight check-in, book elsewhere. If you want to be looked after like family, Pettigru Place is exactly that.
4. The Westin Poinsett
Address: 120 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601
Rate: $$$ | Pet-Friendly

Okay, if you like a little luxury with your historic hotels, the Westin Poinsett is where you want to stay in Greenville.
Greenville’s only AAA Four Diamond hotel opened in 1925 as “Carolina’s finest,” and you still get all those glorious historic details like the soaring ceilings, marble detailing, a grand lobby that makes you want to dress up a little just to walk through it.
As a guest here, you’ll be in good company. Amelia Earhart stayed here. So did Cornelius Vanderbilt and Bobby Kennedy. Today the hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Here’s the thing that sold us though: the location is perfect for a downtown city break. We stayed here when we came to see Hamilton at The Peace Center. We walked to dinner and to the show and felt perfectly safe.
And it’s literally next door to M. Judson Booksellers, which is hands-down my favorite bookstore in Greenville (I have a whole post on it, don’t get me started).
They’ve kept all the historic charm without making you rough it. That Westin Heavenly Bed is not a gimmick, you will sleep like a rock.
If you don’t feel like going back out, Spoonbread does Southern breakfast and lunch downstairs, and there’s a piano lounge in the lobby with craft cocktails and live music some nights. We didn’t eat at the restaurants this trip, but we did hit the lounge after the show for a late night cocktail.
Oh, and it’s a Marriott property, so you can book it on Bonvoy points. A historic four-diamond hotel for free? Yes please.
5. Swamp Rabbit Inn
Address: 1 Logan St, Greenville, SC 29601
Rate: $$ | Not Pet-Friendly

Want to actually live in Greenville for a few days instead of just visiting it? This is your spot.
The Swamp Rabbit Inn is a six-bedroom converted house in the West End, and the vibe is less “hotel” and more “the cool friend who happens to own a place downtown and handed you the keys.” You let yourself in with a code, there’s no front desk, no one hovering, no housekeeping knocking at 9am. It’s just you, your people, and the run of the house, the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, the decks, and those rocking-chairs on the front porch.
You can rent a single room or the whole house, which sleeps 16. Split between a big group, that price drops to almost nothing per person, which makes this an absolute no-brainer for a girls’ weekend or a family reunion.
Every room has its own en suite bathroom, and everything else is shared. Breakfast is a make-it-yourself situation, the fridge is loaded with eggs, bacon, fruit, yogurt, and a bunch of different milks, and there are pastries out every morning. You can share your favorite Greenville tips with other guests on the chalkboard walls.
Named for Greenville’s famous walking and biking path, The Swamp Rabbit Trail, the Inn has its own Bike Shed where guests can rent bikes for a very reasonable fee. Or, feel free to bring your own. Each room has a bike stand for easy storage.
The location is about as convenient as it gets in the West End. Swamp Rabbit Inn is two blocks to Main Street, an easy stroll to Falls Park, and basically next door to Fluor Field. If you’re in town for a Greenville Drive game, you can’t do better than this for getting to the ballpark.
Now the honest part: you give up some comfort to live like a local. So expect smallish bathrooms, some city noise, and a lived-in, slightly cluttered charm rather than a polished hotel.

6. AC Hotel
AC Hotel Address: 315 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601
Rate: $$$ | Not Pet-Friendly

Want downtown Greenville with a little swagger? This is your spot.
AC is Marriott’s European-design brand, so the whole vibe is sleek, modern, and minimalist in an effortlessly cool continental way. The walls are filled with art by local Greenville artists. If that aesthetic is your thing, you’ll feel it the second you walk in.
The food-and-drink scene is basically an entire night out under one roof. Start up top at Juniper, a greenhouse-style rooftop bar with sunset views over the Blue Ridge and live music or a DJ most nights. This is THE Instagram shot in Greenville, hands down.
Have a tapas-forward dinner at Paloma and then sneak down to the second floor to The Press Room, a hidden speakeasy serving small plates and creative craft cocktails themed around The Greenville News. As a broadcast journalism major and lover of craft cocktails, this concept is right up my alley. My personal favorites from the cocktail menu are The Correspondent and Off the Record.
Location-wise, it’s hard to beat. You’re right on South Main, a five-minute walk to the Peace Center, Falls Park, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail, with some of downtown’s best restaurants close by. One of our all-time favorite Greenville restaurants, Camp, is right outside the door.
One insider tip: that amazing rooftop bar is also the one drawback if you’re a light sleeper. When you’re done at Juniper for the night, you want to actually be done. So do yourself a favor and book a room that’s not directly underneath it. Steer clear of the 7th floor and you’ll get all the rooftop fun with none of the midnight soundtrack.
7. Hotel Hartness
Hotel Hartness Address: 120 Halston Avenue, Greenville, SC 29615
Rate: $$$ | Pet-Friendly

Okay, every other hotel on this list puts you in Greenville. Hotel Hartness takes you away from it, and honestly, that’s the entire point of putting this one on our list of best hotels in Greenville.
Hotel Hartness sits on a 180-acre nature preserve about fifteen minutes east of downtown, built around a French Revival mansion that was the Hartness family’s actual home. It’s a boutique luxury resort, on the MICHELIN Guide list, with 73 rooms and suites.
The second you turn onto the property, you’re a world away. You’re not at a hotel anymore. You’re on your own private estate with trails, ponds, and the Blue Ridge mountains in the distance. We. Are. Smitten.
This is the one to book when you just need to escape. There are 10+ miles of trails to walk or bike (they’ll lend you a bike), a dreamy spa, a pool, and little quiet nooks all over the grounds practically begging you to do nothing all day. Splurge on a spa suite if you can, you get a furnished balcony over the water and a soaking tub you will genuinely never want to climb out of. Trust us.
And we’ve got to talk about the food. Patterson Kitchen + Bar is the on-site restaurant, dinner only, with floor-to-ceiling windows over the pond and elevated Southern cooking that uses all the best Upstate ingredients.
People drive out here from Greenville just to eat, so book your table when you book your room! Then head over to The Captain, the cozy little wine and cocktail bar in the main house. It’s the kind of warm, dim, perfect spot where one drink turns into three.
Here’s the trade, and for the right trip it’s not really a trade at all: you’re not walking to Main Street from here. Downtown is a short drive when you want it, but the whole idea is that you don’t have to leave. If you’re coming to Greenville to be in the middle of the action, stay downtown. If you’re coming for an anniversary, a big birthday, or a “let’s disappear together” kind of weekend, Hotel Hartness is the one to book.
Start Planning Your Trip to Greenville SC
So that’s our list, seven Greenville hotels we’d actually book ourselves, each one with its own personality. Whether you want a historic landmark on Main Street, a lodge over the falls, a sleek spot with a rooftop scene, a B&B where someone learns your name, or a country estate to disappear into for a weekend, there’s one here that fits the trip you’re planning.
If we had to send you to just one for a first visit, it’d be the Grand Bohemian. It’s our favorite, and the location does the rest of the work. But honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of these.
One last thing worth knowing: Greenville’s hotel scene is still growing. There are a couple of boutique properties coming to the West End, including one going into a historic theater building, that we’ve got our eye on. We try new hotels every time we’re in town, so when they open, you’ll find them here. Check back before you book your next trip, and we’ll keep this list current.
Until then, go catch a show at the Peace Center and eat your way down Main Street.
