Where is Bourbon at the Bar Held?
Head downstairs from the main lobby toward the casino, and you’ll find Cafe Carlton. This cozy bar, tucked in a corner, feels like a step back in time. Rich red velvets and murals of performers and guests create the atmosphere of an early 20th-century cabaret supper club.

The Bourbon Tasting Experience
When you arrive, the bar is set up and ready to go. Each spot has five private selection bourbons, a small charcuterie plate, and water. Groups are kept small for a more personal experience.

Two bartenders guide you through the tasting. They’ll explain the lineup and order of the bourbons. Starting with the lightest proof and working up to the strongest, they’ll share each distillery’s history, how The Greenbrier created their private selection, and tasting notes. Don’t be shy – these folks know their stuff, so ask away!

The Bourbons
Here’s what we tasted. Your selection might be different, and I won’t spoil all the details – that’s part of the fun. But here are some quick thoughts on each:
01
Woodford Reserve Peace & Justice – Named after two former Greenbrier horses. Smoothest of the bunch with hints of vanilla.
02
Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye – Spicier than bourbon, as ryes tend to be. Paired well with the charcuterie. Definite cinnamon notes.
03
Makers Mark Private Selection – My favorite. The Greenbrier’s unique stave combination brought out caramel and citrus notes.
04
Whistlepig Piggyback Rye – Packs a punch with mocha and spice notes. A surprise hit with the rye-skeptic in our group.
04
Smooth Ambler Old Scout – Locally distilled by Smooth Ambler Spirits, just minutes from The Greenbrier. Strong but smooth – we liked it so much we considered touring the distillery.

Absolutely! It’s a great date night and a perfect way to kick off a stay at the resort. The knowledgeable bartenders made the experience – we even chatted with them again the next night about bourbon and rum.
